We all already know that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, the duo behind the Academy Award-winning The Lord of the Rings trilogy, are working on the upcoming Halo film. Now it looks like Jackson and Walsh are delving even deeper into the Halo universe. Today, Microsoft and Bungie Studios both announced that Jackson and Walsh are working on a new unnamed Halo project. The two movie makers have formed a videogame studio called Wingnut Interactive. Together with Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie, this new developer will create both a new Halo game and a completely original title.
On Bungie's official website Peter Jackson is quoted saying, "Working directly with the Bungie guys to help carve out and reimagine another piece of the Halo game universe is a dream come true. Combining the creative and technical talents of Bungie Studios with the fire and passion of Wingnut Interactive just seems like a great recipe for success and the perfect way to start a new kind of partnership in the video game world. I can't wait."
So far all Bungie is saying about this new Halo game is that it is "another chapter in the Halo universe." Meanwhile, Bungie is still hard at work on Halo 3, while a handful of the Bungie workforce help out Wingnut Interactive. Both the new games from Wingnut Interactive will be for the Xbox 360.
