5th Cell, the indie studio behind Scribblenauts, ambiguously announced in October that its upcoming third-person shooter will offer a "completely new gameplay experience." What's so special about Hybrid? The studio is finally ready to start talking.

Designed using Valve's Source Engine, Hybrid pits two factions -- the human Paladins and the genetically altered Variants -- against one another in a war-torn future. The game will take place in a persistent online world, allowing "hundreds of thousands of players across a single, unified world server," but its innovative gameplay experience comes in the form of its point-and-click movement controls. See for yourself in this demo trailer from 5th Cell:

Hybrid is an Xbox Live exclusive. The game is set for downloadable launch sometime this year.

Sharkey says: So you'll point in the direction you want to go, hit A, and off you go. And as you rack up kills, you'll be able to generate AI teammates to help you do your dirty work. Interesting ideas. Sounds like there will definitely be a learning curve attached to Hybrid, but given 5th Cell's track record, I'm certainly willing to give it a shot.
