It seems like we've been reading about Brutal Legend on an almost weekly basis leading up to today. Today is of course Rocktober 13th which means that Tim Schafer's latest opus has now officially launched in North America. While the other territories have to hang on for a few more measly days, the first couple of web reviews have already hit.

Our sister site IGN Games posted their exclusive review and pegged it with a whopping 9.0 out of 10:
Brutal Legend is a tour de force that wraps up humor, music, and clever gameplay into one highly polished package. You haven't played a game quite like this before and won't want to miss it. Tim Schafer is one of the funniest guys in games and Jack Black is one of the funniest guys in movies -- together they'll keep you ROFLing (although the laughs do taper off as you work your way through the game).
We all know how important it is to be kept ROFLing, don't we? More reviews are expected to flood the interwebs later today, and stay tuned for our own verdict. May rock have mercy on our souls.

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

Bryn says: I've said this all year long: Brutal Legend is my second most wanted game of 2009. And after downloading the whopping 1.5GB demo on my Xbox 360, I am almost 100 percent positive that my spidey-sense is not off-base in the slightest.

It's the characters that'll be the driving force for me. Jack Black is the perfect fit for Eddie Riggs, and it's no bad thing that the slice and dice bloody action is a ton of fun either.
