On Tuesday we ran a story which revealed potential plans from Activision Blizzard to implement an MMO-style microtransaction service in future Call of Duty titles.

While the information in the story was based on an alleged survey, Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward has been quick to deny that its upcoming shooter, or any of its games for that matter, will ever be bound to such a system.
This rumor has absolutely nothing to do with Infinity Ward or our games, including Modern Warfare 2. We would never introduce such a system for Modern Warfare 2 so don't worry.

Multiplayer will always be equal and free for everyone as always.
So there you have it folks. As long as Infinity Ward has anything to do with anything, its Call of Duty titles won't fall foul to any extra premium content services.

Infinity Ward: shielding players from MMO-type nonsense.

Bryn says: Phew. Glad to hear this rumor put to bed. Of course, there's more than one developer that makes Call of Duty games, but I get the feeling that if such a service did ever come to fruition it'd be tied to a different and new kind of game that may bear the Call of Duty brand name.

Some kind of MMORPG perhaps?
