When it was released last year, Realtime Worlds' Crackdown was hailed as one of the year's best new intellectual properties. Its blend of fast, over-the-top action and vertical platforming was addictive (although not as addictive as collecting those glowing orbs!), so we couldn't wait for a sequel. Unfortunately, the Scotland-based developer announced that it would not be working on a sequel, as members of the Crackdown team are busy developing APB, their cops-n-robbers MMO.
Thankfully, since Microsoft owns the rights to Crackdown and any sequels, they have the final say on whether a follow-up will be made, and who will be developing it. Today, on game development site Gamasutra, reports have surfaced that a new developer comprised of former members of Realtime Worlds and Xen Group (which helped in the development of Crackdown) is likely hard at work on a sequel. It's still too early to confirm (and we're still waiting on an official word from Microsoft), but it looks like we'll be scaling building and collecting orbs again sometime in the near future.
We'll update you with any official comments as soon as we get them.
