Fable III drops in less than two weeks; what better time to journey back to Albion and play Fable II again? Today, Microsoft is giving gamers an even better reason to play Peter Molyneux's second Fable adventure: it's a free download on Xbox Live.

First spotted by Kotaku, Fable II is now listed as free on Xbox Live Marketplace. Microsoft and Lionhead Studios haven't said anything about the game or a promotion related to Fable III, and whether it's an error that will soon be corrected is unknown.

Fable II launched in October 2008, and we gave the game a 4.5 in our review. The title went on to sell nearly 4 million copies worldwide, becoming an Xbox 360 Platinum Hit.

Fable III is being developed for the Xbox 360 and Windows PCs. The game is set to launch for the 360 on October 26. Microsoft has yet to announce a release date for the PC version.

Sharkey says: I'm a big Fable fan, and I highly recommend Fable II -- especially when it's free. If you've got 7GB worth of room on your 360, start downloading now just in case this is some sort of mistake.
