Originally set to ship alongside its Xbox 360 brother in October, the PC version of Fable III was bumped back to an undisclosed date and seemingly forgotten. Not so, Microsoft revealed today, PC gamers can return to the fantasy world of Albion on May 17 -- and with a few extra goodies to boot.

Microsoft announced the Fable III PC release date today at a press event in San Francisco. Lionhead Studios' RPG adventure has been optimized for PC gaming, Microsoft said, and will include new features only found on the PC version.

A new quest, region, outfit, and dog are included in the Windows version of the game, as well as a hardcore mode that Microsoft promises will up the difficulty level in the game significantly.

In related news, Microsoft also announced that the next DLC pack for Fable III, Traitor's Keep, will launch on March 1 on Xbox Live for 560 MS points or $7. The DLC adds three new levels called Ravenscar Keep, Clockwork Island, and the Godwin Estate and a handful of new quests.

Sharkey says: Hardcore mode, eh? The 360 version could have used that. What say you, PC gamers, are you still interested in a return trip to Albion?
