Though id Software co-founder John Carmack founded his career on PC game development, his latest game, Rage, is being built specifically for consoles. Carmack explained in the latest issue of Gamer Informer that the decision was made because "The largest chunk of our market's going to be on consoles. I mean, yes, you can use the mouse for it, but it's critical that the controller be the way that we design the game." And while Carmack has no reservations designing his new title for consoles, he's run into a space issue -- Carmack believes Rage would fill up three DVDs, but he doesn't want to partition the experience in an arbitrary manner to accommodate the space. Luckily, Carmack has about a year to figure things out, as Rage is expected to ship sometime in 2010.

Tyler says: Wow, a PC god is making something for us lowly console gamers? I think it's a bold move that takes courage in the face of PC purists who may see this as an attack on their loyalty over the years. But hey, look back at BioShock -- it was designed by former PC guru Ken Levine, who worked on PC classics like Thief, System Shock 2 and Tribes, and no one complained about that game. Also, Carmack assures us that we will have the option for mouse-and-keyboard controls on PC, so we really have no reason to worry here.
