Capcom's Lost Planet 2 is coming pretty soon. It won't, however, be shipping out with all of the original content that the development team wanted to see in the final product. Kotaku reports that Capcom's producer Jun Takeuchi recently spoke about how the limited storage capacity of the Xbox 360's DVD media was a stumbling block for the team. The PlayStation 3's Blu-ray discs would not have presented a problem...
In a recent interview, Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi said Capcom had to cut a significant amount from the game. When asked how development was going, he replied, "There wasn't especially any big trouble. More than those kind of difficulties, the edited content was way too much and dealing with that was more difficult than anything."

"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant," Takeuchi added, "and at the end, we had to wrestle with disc space."
The general consensus is that now the missing content will arrive in some form or another as downloadable content after the game has released.

We're hoping that this bit made the cut.

Bryn says: Yet another reason for Microsoft to step it up and embrace larger-capacity media for its system. I know it won't happen with the Xbox 360, but surely it'll have to be case for the machine's successor. I guess this is just one of the many hurdles that developers face when making a game for multiple platforms. And even though it's not implicitly stated anywhere in the piece, I have to assume that the PlayStation 3 version of Lost Planet 2 will also be cut down, just to keep things "fair."

Roll on DLC-time, please.
