Word in from EA tells us that the publisher has just released a downloadable demo of NHL 10 for the Xbox 360 via the system's Marketplace. The demo will allow players to check out two new modes of play: Battle for the Cup and Be A Tough Guy.
Experience the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Championship between Detroit and Pittsburgh in Battle for the Cup. The new mode features playable injuries, the ability to intimidate the opposing team, and line-matching to shut down superstars all in front of frenzied towel waving crowds with storylines that carry across the entire series.

Play as your favourite team's enforcer in Be A Tough Guy, where it is your job to protect your superstars, fight when needed, and finish all checks. The enhanced Be a Pro mode also includes a prospects game before heading to the draft and watching your name appear on the NHL draft board.
EA's touting the game's new first-person fighting engine, and also notes that Xbox Live Silver members and PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands on the demo on August 27th.

Blades of Glory.

Bryn says: EA amazes me with its relentless ability to release yearly incremental upgrades to all of its major sporting franchises. When will it simply run out of new things to include?

In the meantime I think I'll ignore this particular demo (not being a big sports player) and instead get back to pining over the fact that all I really want to do is go buy some new PC components and start building a phat gaming rig.
