It seems as though some publishers are not without a sense of humor. Back in April 2006 Bethesda released the infamous "Horse Armor" downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which rapidly became notoriously slagged off by users. Oblivion players were outraged at the time that the company was charging 200 Microsoft Points for something so basic as a new skin for a horse.

Spin on three years and Bethesda is looking to tie in the third anniversary of the Horse Armor DLC with a little bit of April Fools action, as today it announced that nearly all Xbox 360 Oblivion DLC will be lowered to half-price for the next week, while the Horse Armor pack will actually double in price (presumably to 400 MS points).

Bethesda's Pete Hines sent the following statement.
We are pleased to announce that for the next week all Oblivion DLC for Xbox 360 is half price, except for Horse Armor, which is twice as much as usual. So if you've been waiting for just the right moment to get The Vile Lair, or Knights of the Nine, or Shivering Isles, now is the time.
Hines is quick to point out that gamers can buy up the DLC directly through the Xbox Live Marketplace or by logging into their gamer accounts at xbox.com.

Old nag armor: now with more cost associated!

Bryn says: I'd love to know how many suckers actually drop double the amount of points for the crappy armor DLC. It makes me smile to see this kind of wackiness happening around the industry.

As GameSpy's self-appointed news hound I'm having to be extra super careful today to avoid the inevitable influx of April Fools' jokes out there. The best one I've ever seen was the Sat-Cast in an old issue of Gamer's Republic magazine. Why? Because I wrote it. True story. Google it.
