What's up with THQ's upcoming Warhammer 40,000 third-person shooter? Chaos, that's what's up, son. The publisher announced today that the forces of Chaos will join the Orks as enemy factions in Space Marine.

As one of humanity's elite soldiers, you'll be able to mow through dozens of Orks on your own, THQ noted. But when it comes to Chaos forces, players will find more than capable foes in the Chaos Space Marines, Renegade Militia, Tainted Psykers, and Bloodletter Daemons, among others.

"Space Marine puts players into the role of one of humanity's elite soldiers, as they battle to protect an Imperial Forge World from a millions-strong Ork invasion," THQ said in a statement. "But this isn't all that faces Captain Titus of the Ultramarines. When Titus makes planet-fall, he soon realizes that the forces of Chaos are lurking in the shadows pulling the strings for their own nefarious purposes."

In announcing the addition of Chaos forces in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, THQ also shrank the game's release window from summer to August.

Relic Entertainment (Dawn of War II: Retribution) is developing Space Marine for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PCs.

Sharkey says: I'm a Warhammer 40,000 n00b, so I'll leave the ramifications of the addition of Chaos to those who know what they're talking about. Thoughts?
