If you've managed to move past the fact that 2K Marin's version of X-COM: UFO Defense is a first-person shooter, the studio would like to tell you a little bit about the title it's putting together. What is XCOM? Find out below.

In this developers' diary, the 2K Marin team describes XCOM as a game that reinvigorates the franchise while adhering to the tenets that make the original so special. An origin story, the game explores the humble roots of the XCOM organization before it became a global entity. See below:



XCOM is in development for Windows PCs, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game is set for launch in March 2012.

What at first appeared to be a BioShock-like alien invasion title has been transformed into more of a strategy game -- a move the devs try to highlight in this video.
